Available Reproductive Services for Stallions

The stallion services at ERC are focused on helping the horse owner in many different ways. A full reproductive evaluation may be warranted prior to purchasing a stallion, a fertility problem is suspected, or simply to obtain general semen parameters prior to the breeding season. Processing semen for cooled transport is a wonderful aspect of a breeding program for those that wish to offer their stallion’s semen to outside breeders.  Once an acceptable protocol has been found, stallion semen can be shipped to breed mares anywhere within the United States. For those stallion owners that want to preserve their stallion’s semen indefinitely, the semen freezing program at ERC can help to achieve those goals. Frozen semen can expand a breeding program to include exposure outside the continental U.S. It also preserves a stallion’s ability to acquire offspring even after injury or death.

If you are a new stallion owner, you may choose to train your stallion to the phantom. This will open up several opportunities like fresh, cooled or frozen semen breedings without the concerns of injury to all involved under natural cover circumstances. For those stallion owners that have a stallion with breeding issues, we may be able to help by first fully understanding the problem and then coming up with a management system that will allow the stallion to continue to be productive in a breeding program. Likewise, for those owners that have a very small breeding operation, you may find it beneficial to simply allow ERC to manage your stallion for you. He can be housed at ERC for certain periods of time so clients can receive shipped semen on demand. Lastly, if you are interested in purchasing a stallion (2 yrs-of-age or older) from outside the U.S., it is required that he undergo testing for several diseases including Contageous Equine Metritis (CEM) as he enters the U.S.  ERC can help execute those requirements in a safe and professional manner. Just let us know if we can be of service to you and your stallion.”
